Rest in Peace, dear, dear friend. So sad to hear from Sue the news of the big C; even sadder to know that circumstances deprived us of the chance to chat again before the sands of time caught up with you. You are a massive positive in the memories of an old man. I cannot think of a single negative moment in our many, many, years as ‘close friends’. We had some great times in our youth and numerous memorable incidents; including a boat without brakes, a smoke filled car on the IoW ferry, looking for a big rock....in Derbyshire? and the adventurous hours we spent ‘up the rec’, ‘down hummy’ and all along the Trentside. The church commitments/events both at home and away, its full and varied social life and the unique camaraderie around the St John’s years are full of warm thoughts, of which you were a major part. It was an unquestionable privileged to have you by my side in 1963, thank you. Although we cannot now reminisce in person I have an immense treasure trove of memories of you to fill the remainder of my life. Your dear wife Sue picked a ’gud ‘un’; my warmest best wishes go to her for a long, content and healthy future.

I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other that we still are.
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it ever was.
